Epic

Epic by Conor Kostick
Reading level: grade 6 and up

In the society of New Earth, everything from legal disputes to status and wealth are decided by a virtual fantasy role-playing computer game called Epic. Anyone who commits a violence is exiled by Central Allocations, the committee who rules Epic and New Earth. When Erik’s parents are unfairly treated by Central Allocations, Erik undertakes a dangerous mission to challenge Central Allocations and bring about the end of Epic.

This is a science fiction book with fantasy elements. The characters go back and forth between the real world and the fantasy world of Epic and scene shifts are done well so readers are not confused. The book will appeal to both science fiction and fantasy fans. The sequel Saga is available now and the author is working on the third book. Readers will definitely want sequels!
