The Night Tourist

The Night Tourist by Katherine Marsh
Reading level: Ages 12 and up

Ninth grader Jack Perdu is known as a gifted scholar of the classics, particularly when it comes to Greek Mythology. Imagine his confusion when an accident casts him into a parallel world, found in the lower regions of the New York subway system. This unseen world is populated by the ghosts of every person who died in the city but hasn’t yet “moved on.” Here, he meets Euri (think Orpheus and Eurydice), a fascinating girl/ghost with a past he wants to understand and with the experience he needs in this “other” world to help him learn the truth about his mother, who disappeared years before. You don’t have to know Greek Mythology to appreciate this story, but you might find you’ve developed an interest!
